Longreach

One of our key objectives of this trip was to visit the Stockman Hall of Fame and the Qantas Museum at Longreach. It is about a five and a half hour drive (without stops) to Longreach from Charleville so we headed off reasonable early. We were now starting to travel above the Tropic of Capricorn and the weather had warmed up nicely.

Longreach

Australian Stockman Hall of Fame

Although we had been to Longreach before we had not had the time to spend at all the attractions of the area. The Stockman’s Hall of Fame Broken Hill was of special interest to Judy as a former neighbour (High Sawrey) played a key role in the formation of this facility.

There are lots of interesting things to see in and around Broken Hill. Highlights for us included the Silver City Mint and Art Centre, the Line of Load Miners Memorial, Silverton and of course the Pro Hart Art Gallery.

The photographs below show some of the Big Picture’, the World’s Largest Acrylic Painting on Canvas by a single artist which is displayed at the Silver City Mint and Art Centre.

Line of Load Miners Memorial

The Memorial is a must do if you are in the area. Both the display and the views from the Memorial are worth taking in. There is a cafe there but unfortunately it was closed when called in. The photopgraph’s below show a little of this site.

Silverton

Visiting Silverton is a must do if you are in this area. The four main attractions are the Museum, Hotel, the Art Gallery and the Mad Max Museum. The Photographs below are taken from the Hotel precent.
